Why do we celebrate Mother's Day on this day?

The origins of this festival date back to Ancient Greece, where spring ceremonies took place in honor of Rhea, the "Great Mother" or the mother of the gods.

The English celebrated Mothering Day in the 15th Century, then the United States at the beginning of the 20th Century made Mother's Day official.

It was only at the end of the First World War that Mother's Day spread in Europe, notably thanks to American soldiers sending postcards to their mothers for Mother's Day.

However, it was not until April 20, 1926, that Mother's Day was officially recognized in France, but it is still called 'Mothers' Day of Large Families'. Festival aimed at encouraging the birth rate, which has been in continuous decline since 1866 in France.

Mother's Day as we know it.

The law of May 24, 1950 states that "the French Republic officially pays tribute each year to French mothers during a day dedicated to the celebration of “Mother's Day”".

Mother's Day as we know it today is official and will take place each year on the last Sunday in May. It is today celebrated in many countries around the world, sometimes on a different date.
